With March coming to a close, it felt appropriate to share an update with everyone. March has been really busy for me, but I was still able to make progress with the project. My last devlog, I've stated that I was gonna rebuild chapter 1 and redraw the characters. I'm happy to say I'm nearly done with chapter 1 and I just need one more to draw. (The character is drawn but it doesn't look right to me as a whole.)

The rewritten story:

"You can skip over this if you want to see the characters."

I breezed over the details last time, but story didn't feel right to me afterwards. One issue was Henry's relationship with Edwin and Maria. Due to his lack of memories and feelings for certain things, I wanted the two of them to be parent figures to him and have the some weight to obtaining his name. While the feeling is there and known to the reader, it was the wrong approach. I had to look back at my old works and writing to see why the emotional scenes like them work and not this. Needless to say, that parent relationship they have will be removed, and I'll be going for a more friendship relationship between them. I'm also changing the second conscious, that being King. It serves as a way to tell Henry's past and give hints to who he is. At first it was a second Henry that he can talk to and have his thoughts be responded to so he's not alone in his dark thoughts. I did like the premise of a voice talking in Henry's head, but having it as a second person that he can talk to was confusing when other characters were present. And to end it off, I wanted to include more of the world building I had. Henry and the reader only knew that minotaurs shouldn't really be around and the fear in the town would show what he would expect in the future. This counter acted how I built the world and doesn't tell you much on it. Henry will still be seen as enigma but his presence won't bring such a reaction like before. Along with that some world building in the lands of Asterian.

New Character sprites:

As many of you know, I'm not the best artist. I'm still learning and trying my best for every piece I make. Working on "Selfish Hope" made me see that having a team,(No matter how small) helps. Ant work really hard on those CGs and we both talked about working together again for something like this in the future. So, you will most likely see more art from him. On to the characters, I won't lie, the art was terrible from my point of view. That is to be expected since I just got back into drawing after two years, and was drawing digitally for the first time. Since then, I've improve. Not too much but enough that looking at the old sprites, it's clear I've gotten better. To start off, here's old Edwin and Maria.

Edwin was easier to redraw since I had in mind how he should look, but the same be said for Maria. I can't for the life of me draw a female body. I had my older sister's help,(She's an amazing artist.) but I also had over 36 references on the female body. I didn't think it was hard until I tried with Maria's first design. Hopefully I'll improve but for now this is the best I got. Now on to a character that never showed up but I had big plans for him when making the project. Many of you might have seen him on BlueSky in my banner or posts. Until then, he was an underdeveloped character that I was still making. After rewriting chapter 1, I'm happy to announce a new character in the story. Meet Argus.

Ant also helped in designing him. Before he was much shorter and I had a theme with him involving poppy flowers. I've really grew to like him as I write his lines. I have one more character, but I'm not gonna show him off since I need to change him. Since we're on the topic of sprites and characters, the three characters from "Selfish Hope" will also be making appearances and have roles in this story. That VN was more suppose to be a side story within this one, but you'll get to see their adventures after the events of that story.
